Thanks Madonna, I think I'll stick with the Boots ones then unless I can get some hospital ones. The hosp ones are thigh length from what I recall so maybe not ideal under trousers?!

Mazzy - Tell me all about the hotel?! Is it nice? How's the food???

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

I'll try and find some pics for you. H is possibly the world's fussiest eater, but he always found plenty to eat. Are you going AI?
The main restaurant bit was lovely. Good food, plenty of choice, lots of it cooked infront of you. Tends to be themed foods on a daily basis, but we had no problem finding something every day. They had the best juices I've ever tasted - all freshly squeezed. So nice!
Lunch can get a bit busy in all the restaurants, but we always got something, and didn't have to wait long anywhere.
Breakfast was looooooovely. So fattening, but yum!
Only thing I would say is avoid the seafoody place. We love seafood, and this place wasn't much tbh. Other than that though, it was lovely.

Room/suite was lovely too. Not the fanciest, I'll grant you, but we didn't go there for the room, did we! Massive tv though.....50in or so. H was most impressed!Laugh
Pool was nice too. Always clean, not too chlorine-y, just the right temp to cool you off. We always managed to get a spot on the beach too. We did go at the very very tail end of the summer season though (beginning of October). Weather was gorgeous.

Oh, and if you get the chance to try the spa, do it! Blummin fantastic! We had a 45min massage thing done....we couldn't walk properly afterwards it was so relaxing!Laugh

Staff are all fab, and so friendly. They work really hard, but still smile and do anything and everything for you.

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

They are jealous lovely! Go, enjoy it. It'll do you the wonder of good. As long as you are careful then you will be fine.

Hope you are ok otherwise xxx

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

WOW Mazzy that looks fab Smile

Yep we're AI and have paid the extra for the Nirvana package so we get a Nirvana room and use of the Nirvana Pool as well as the other pools. Looks like you get to choose from all the restaurants too which is good for AI

Really hope we can try the spa, though of course it depends on if treatments are suitable for pregnancy. I can't see a 'spa menu' on the website so not sure...

Hopefully when we go it won't be too busy as it's not Easter Holidays and is technically off season for Mauritius! But then even if it's busy it'll be fab Smile

Thanks for posting the photos! How long did you go for? x

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

Thanks Rusty Smile Did you get my email last week? Think it was to your work address...? xx

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

We didn't have the nirvana package bit, but heard good things about it. The restaurant for that bit is nice too. A bit more posh! Laugh. We got to try that one as we were on honeymoon, so it was a freeby thing. You have to book those restaurants in advance though, so make sure you do it at the beginning of your stay as they fill up quickly. I can't remember if there was a limit to how many you could go to in a week or not, so best to check.

We went for 10 days, and could quite easily have stayed another week. We tend to get bored really easily, but we were out and about on a few days, and the rest we spent on the beach. Was bliss.

They also tend to have things going on in the evenings. There was something that told you what would be happening and when. I think they give you that at reception when you get there. Oooh, the reception area was lovely too!
But, it has reminded me of some horrid drink they gave us when we got there. Lychee something or other. Absolutely vile, so be warned!Laugh

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

Will check about the restuarants Mazzy - Thank you!

We're there for 7 nights but actually have 8 full days whihc is good. I can't wait!

Must remember to avoid the welcome drink Laugh

You gonna get a killer outfit for that party? x

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

I'm trying to find some more pics for you but I think they're on the pc. Will keep looking though.

    Am tres jealous though!

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

You'll have a fab time.  Just take sensible precautions, like you would when not pregnant!  Drink plenty of water, try and move around the plane if possible, but most of all enjoy yourself on holiday!

I really want to go back to Mauritius - we stayed at le Coco Beach which is closed for renovation at the moment - loved every minute of it!  We've said that we'll go back for our 10 year anniversary in 6 years time...  Will cost a bit more though as we'll have to take the kids too!

ETA - Thanks Bambi Smile I really can't wait now, just going to make friends comments wash over me I think.

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

    Hi MKM,

As you may know, I just got back from Egypt. Lots of my friends thought it wasn't a good idea because of the issues with cleanliness and food/water. But we took sensible precautions (as the others have detailed) and it was a great break. The worry about it beforehand was absolutely not worth it because I came back feeling sooo much better than when I went.

Look forward to it and enjoy!

You know, I'm a bit surprised how many people are agreeing that they're just jealous - and that you (MKM) also say that.  These are your friends.  If they're the kind of people to say negative things because they're jealous - and in fact downright scary things - because they're jealous, then they're not friends and you should ditch them.

Plenty of people have posted on Hitched over the 3 years I've been here asking about whether it's safe to fly.  I asked my midwife and GP myself, as I fly frequently with work.  It's a really common worry, so I'm not surprised your pregnant friends shared concerns with you.

So no, I don't think they're jealous - and yes I think their comments are fair.  Their comments might not be right, but they're just saying what they think.  You have consulted more expert opinions - Hitched midwife, so you don't need to share there concerns.  But I don't think it's fair to them to assume they're just jealous.

I agree, it's unlikely MKM's friends are just jealous and are probably trying to be helpful.

For me though, I can't help but wonder why people feel the need to put a dampener on a situation that has already been arranged. For example, if I asked my friends' opinions on flying, or mentioned that I was thinking of going, then the sort of responses such as those of MKM's friends, would be useful. However, when you tell people you have booked a holiday and are clearly looking forward to it (or you wouldn't have said anything at all about it!), it seems pointless to scare monger.

A more useful and productive response perhaps, would be to share the excitement and perhaps add things such as 'dont forget your flight socks' and 'stay nice and hydrated'... the types of things lots of the Hitched ladies have contributed, and rightly so!

I personally hate it when people put a downer on something that a) has already been arranged/can't be changed and b) you are really looking forward to!

  • Re: Flying during pregnancy - concerns

I do see what  you're saying Nixxy Noo, and I'd agree if it were just a concern that a "hot" holiday would be too hot - and it's far better to say "make sure you get lots of time cooling off in that lovely pool" than "oh no it'll be horrid, it's too hot".

But if it's health concerns, I think it's more important to share them than gloss over them for fear of upsetting a friend.

And if you're not excited any more about a holiday because of couple of friends were a bit negative - well, sorry to be harsh - but I think you need to just get over it!  You need to not care so much what other people think!  (that latter bit is good advice throughout pregnancy and motherhood, btw Laugh)
