  • Baby's 1st holiday

I feel like I'd like to go away somewhere more exciting than PIL's house this summer but don't know how easy it is travelling with a baby.

So - your LO's1st holiday - how old were they? Where did you go? How did you get on when you were there?

I havent got a baby myself.

But we took my nephew on holiday this christmas to australia, he was just under 1 at the time. he travelled amazingly as he just slept  most of the way.

He didnt get on with the heat, but it was in the high 30s!

I would reccomend that if you go away, try going may time or sep or oct as they are cooler than the summer months. And maybe go to spain, or a canary island as they are both not to far to go.

Eleanor was about 7 months old but had only been home 2 months.  We went to the welsh borders for a week in a cottage.

This time we're hoping to make it to the continent eurocamp in september and then be really brave and make Australia in December. we'll see how brave we are when it comes down to it!

We've booked to go to Spain in May half term when L will be 6months. A friend said it's the worse time to go as he'll be just starting to wean and I'll be disrupting his routine too much etc etc but I've not listened.

We're going back to a villa we've used a few years running so know the area really well. The guy who owns it has a travel cot, puschair and steriliser there already. We'll just be taking our car seat and our own stroller as we'd need it for the airport anyway. We're flying at 5am so hopefully L will be asleep but will take bottles for the plane etc.

We can't wait to take him in the pool!

O's first holiday was at 6 months, a villa in fuerteventura. There was cot & highchair in villa. It was a bit tricky as just started weaning but otherwise great. We went in feb so not too hot. The car seat we got with hire car was useless, did not seem safe at all.

A's first hol will be in centreparcs at 10 months.

We took Aaron to York when he was 4 months...for 4 days

    It wasnt too bad actually

Took him to Brighton when he was just under a year i think  - he loved it - 3/4 days

Torquay when he was 13 months  - a week

Took him to Madrid when he was 16/17 months and he loved that loads!!

I think i vowed not to holiday until he was over 2 but we did and it was all fund

We took L to Portugal at 5 months.  It was brilliant.  We took his bumbo which he loved.  We had a shade a babe for the pushchair and also a UV tent and we would take it in turns to sit in the shade with him and play.  He also loved the pool

Any excuse for a picture (disclaimer he was having 5 minutes in the son drying off!)

We took Zoe to Orlando when she was 4.5 months, stayed in a villa.  It was easy.  Really wasn't much more hassle than normal.

I would say if you are going to do it, then it is probably easier under 6 months before you have to contend with moving babies and weaning.  Self-catering is also easier because it means you can put baby to bed and still have space to chill out yourself rather than sitting in the same room as them.  We tended to eat out at lunch time and then have a light snack in the evening once Zoe was in bed.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?
