I am getting concerned about the amount my little boy is drinking.  He has never had water (even when he was little he would spit it out) and so has very very weak cordial juice and milk.

This morning before 8am (got up at 7am) he had drunk 2 cups of juice and 2 small cups of milk.  He is asking me for juice/milk constantly and if I say he has had enough or there is no more he gets upset.  He then drinks it down as if he is very thirsty.  Yesterday morning he had 5 cups of juice before playgroup at 9am.

He doesn't wake at night for a drink, but it is one of the first things he asks for in the morning.

My first thought is diabetes ... should I be worried?

I honestly don't know. If it has happened suddenly going from literally nothing to loads then I would check it out just to put your mind at rest. It seems like a lot before 9am.

Wow, that does sound like a lot. My two don't drink that much in a whole day (although they're probably at the other end of the scale - only drink one beaker of watered down juice a day and a tiny bit of milk before bed).

I'd maybe get it checked out. Although I have known of toddlers to be like this and it was a habit rather than a need.

That is a lot of liquid to be consuming that early!

I would get him checked just to be sure

My 2 year old boy drinks a lot also.  Some children do, but if it would put your mind at rest then definitely speak with your doctor.  It's important to rule out things like diabetes if you feel he is consuming an abnormal amount of liquid.  He may just be a thirsty boy though! Hug

I posted very similar last week.

I am putting it down to the fact the heating is on so much just now.  H and I are drinking a pint of dilute juice or water each during the night so I am assuming thats why A is drinking so much in the morning aswell.

Though if it would put your mind at rest I would get him checked out with the GP.  Cant do any harm to take him x
