  • In your experience - depo related

    HI

Am usually over in WP so new to this forum.  Just after a bit of advice.....

I get married in feb and we have been getting very broody!!  After long chats we have decided we both want to enjoy be married for a yaer before we try for babies.  I've been taking the depo contraceptive injection for 3 years now and was wondering if anyone else was on this before they decided they wanted to start trying.  How long did it take for you to conceive after your last jab??  I've heard it can take up to two years but i'm guessing its different for everyone.  I'm 26 and h2b 31 so don't want to leave it more than a year or 2.

    Any info would be great.

I was on it for four years and it took 11 months for periods to start again from when it was supposed to wear off (14 months from the last injection) so I would recommend coming off it now if you want to start trying in a years time.

    Hi there,

I hear that it can take a long time to get back in the swing of things, so best to give yourself lots of time, however when I came off the depo, my periods started the following month as normal!

It took over a year for my periods to come back..

It can take up to 2 years for everything to return to normal - although obviously everyone is different.   I was on Depo for 10 years, so was expecting it to take a long time.  I had my final injection just before my wedding (as I was worried about the big day & honeymoon being spoilt by a period!!), and then went on the pill - as although we didn't want to TTC immediately, I knew we would within a couple of years and the pill wears off much faster.  I stopped the pill after 18 months, and was pregnant after 2 months TTCing.
