  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

I've had the odd glass of red with dinner. Nothing regular just if I had a fancy for it. Like everyone says it's personal choice and as long as you're not planning on getting hammered i'm sure it'll be fine!

    Gem x

    P.S Enjoy yourself!

  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

I didn't drink in the first trimester, and then after that stuck to the 1-2 units 1-2 times per week guidelines. I think it is a very personal decision whether you drink or not when pregnant but my personal opinion is that a small amount of alcohol won't do any harm.

I never drank any spirits whilst pregnant though, only ever wine, beer or cider etc.

    Enjoy your hen night.

I seem to be in a minority here but I didn't touch any alcohol when TTCing and when pregnangt both times.

I treated myself to 2 tiny glasses of pink fizz (5% alcohol from M & S) watered half with lemonade on Christmas day at 26 weeks. That's me done for the pregnancy now I think. Last time I had one glass of champagne on our first wedding anniversary. I mostly havent fancied it because I rarely drink although it was still a little weird during 'wedding season' on the orange juice for toasts.

I'm avoiding for the first 12 weeks, but after that I may treat myself to the odd shandy or glass of fizz.  I'm not a big wine fan, but I do like a glass of beer or champagne!

I had 2 glasses of lemonade with a splash of rose to taste/colour it. Just so I felt I was having  a drink. It was a house party so was in control of own portion sizes.

Have a wonderful hen do. xx

I didnt have any alcohol at all after my BFP in either pregnancy.  Can honestly say I didn miss it the first time.....I am this time though.   Just dont think I would feel comfortable drinking while knowing I was pregnan but I think its completely each persons own decision.

  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

I followed the guidelines at the time, which were no alcohol during 1st tri, and no more than  1-2 units once or twice a week thereafter. I actually never went further than 1 small glass of wine/champagne on special occasions, so i was well within the limits.

I think that you'd be perfectly justified in having a glass of wine, but I wouldn't go further than 1 glass.

I wish I'd been one of those women who didn't miss booze during pregnancy. I missed it like mad! The only good bit was that I completely lost all tolerance for alcohol, so when I had my first post-baby glass of vino I felt utterly hammered after a couple of sips! Itw as like being a teenager again!

I would allow myself half a glass of wine once a week during my pregnancy but to be honest most of the time I forgot to have it.  Obviously I wasn't that bothered about drinking and for someone who loves her wine and cocktails that says a lot!  Since having the baby however...Laugh

It's personal choice but I don't think 1 glass will make a big difference. x

    Enjoy your hen night. x

    Because I can...

I wasn't a big drinker before I got pg so it hasn't bothered me not having it whilst I have been pg, it hasn't even bothered me over christmas.  I would say it is totally up to you.

  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

I stuck to the nothing-in-the-first-trimester guideline, then only on special occasions (we had two or three weddings) I had a small glass of champagne. I might have had more had I not gone off it completely to the extent that it tasted horrible to me.

I think you could perfectly acceptably have a glass of wine on your hen night!

I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldn't find a babysitter.

  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

Another one here who had nothing in the 1st trimester, but then allowed myself a small glass of red wine if we were eating out etc, I remember having 2 small glasses quite late on in my pregnancy, probably about 34 weeks or so on my husband's birthday, and I felt it going to my head so had to leave it! Bizarre considering before pregnancy I could've quite easily polished off a bottle no bother!!

I'm with those that say it's entirtely up to you and I would say a couple of small glasses will do you no harm, especially if you're having a big meal

    Enjoy x

I had a look at the research and the guidelines aren't based on a great deal of concrete fact - we know that a bottle of vodka a day is bad for the baby (and you to be honest) but we don't know at what points its safe and that very little does transfer to the baby but not the impact of that

I couldn't drink in the first trimester (just threw it all up) and after then when I fancied it i had a drink - wine with dinner, glass of champagne with friends - never enough to make me tipsy or to not be able to drive

Everything in moderation and a bit of what you fancy was my rule whilst pg

  • Re: Is anyone drinking whilst pregnant?

I didn't drink anything in first tri and after that I had the odd glass of wine or champagne, never spirits and never more than one in a week.

I found that I really craved a drink and looked forward to it all week if I knew I was going out for a meal or something but once I started drinking it my legs would go numb and I didn't enjoy it. Most of the time I stopped finishing it.

Actually from about 39 weeks I had quite a few glasses of organic red wine to try and get things moving. It didn't work (I was induced at 41 weeks).

WSS. The govt's reason behind changing the recommendation from 1-2 units 1-2 times a week to no alcohol was "women can't be trusted to be moderate" rather than on scientific knowledge. I refuse to be treated like an imbecile.
