I am seriously starting to think that parents and PIL have no concept of personal time and space.  This is going to sound really bad and I mean it purely in a flippant way but I wish there was SF when I was pregnant so no one had came to visit me. I think  my in laws being the first to visit in hospital was the beginning of all the resentment I have towads them now

OMG is your MIL for real.

I find visitors hard work when I'm well.

i'm glad your h has the balls to stand up to his mother!

The reason we didn't tell anyone we were delivering S till we'd had her... damn, can't do that this time!

I remember very clearly, just being wheeled to my ward bed 3.5 hrs post c section, vomitting into a bowl & glancing out of the window beside me to see my PIL waving frantically through the window.

They were waiting for visiting to start, had turned up at hospital as c section was planned on that day & as it was dusk & curtains not drawn they recognised H stood infront of window. It was the last thing I needed to see!

They did come in & I carried on throwing up, they seemed to not notice! It still feels odd that they had those newborn cuddles that evening. We should have told them where to go. They are really nice usually, just excited about meeting new granddaughter, but it was like a comedy sketch!

I would hate that. When Connor was in SCBU I would stay all day, SCBU was opposite the delivery suite there was group of 5 people waiting for someone to have a baby. They were there for 12 hours, they had to go home eventually without seeing the baby as she was born later on in the night. The thing is they knew they wouldn't be able to go onto the delivery suite but were hoping to catch a glimpse before she went on the ward. I think if I had that pressure to produce because there was a crowd waiting to see the baby I would want to scream 'p**s off'

Wasn't there a hitcher a few years ago whose MIL burst in when she was in the final stages of pushing?

Oh gawd - does she not remember giving birth herself?  Does she not remember how the last thing anyone wants to do minutes after the delivery is to start welcoming in members of the extended family?

Well, at least she is taking an interest Laugh but, seriously, poor you.  I'm glad your H was firm with her.  It looks like he may be doing plenty more of that in the weeks to come, if she thinks this is her involvement level.

I was really young when I had my son so I had both my mum and my H (he was my BF back then) with me during labour right up until about 10 minutes before I delivered when my mum went to wait outside. During those last 10 minutes my MIL turned up and unbeknown to me both mums were right outside the labour room door when he was born and heard his first cry.

Apparently they both cried, hugged and danced along the hall and they came into the room just minutes later. To be honest I was on another planet and only vaguely remember them being there but all these years later they both say that was one of the happiest moments of their life bless them and my MIL still wells up when she talks of hearing her first grandchild cry for the first time.

Saying that, if we ever had another baby, there is noooooo way I would want anyone there during those precious first hours. Luckily I know my H would agree too.

I am glad your H stuck to his guns!

This reminds me when I had Becky, I had visions of the PIL being so excitied at having their 1st grandchild that they would have been in the delivery suite holding my legs in the air whilst giving birth. But both me and hubby both agreed we wouldn't tell them or my parents until we had the baby. But I was induced with Becky so we told them when it was happening but not to do anything until we'd phone. Now for once, the PIL actually behaved themselves and just waited by the phone. However, my mother was a different story, she nearly got me into trouble as she managed to phone the delivery suite and demanded to know what was going on and the midwife had to come and see us and get my hubby to phone my mother tell her not to phone.  In the end I had a c-section but it was early morning and I was out for the count most of the day except for when I was being sick. When my hubby phoned my parents they wanted to come up that day and he had to tell them NO!! I was too tired but they came up the next day, was late for visiting hours and then hopped it when I tried to breastfeed Becky.

The PIL waited til I was out of hospital and had been home a couple days.

My cousin emigrated to Australia a few years ago, and I suppose our aunt has been like a second mother to her. When my cousin gave birth last weekend, she had her boyfriend, her mother (who had flown over) and our aunt in the delivery suite!

Actually joined in April 2008 but Hitched wiped my profile on 7th August 2009....
