    Anyone else suffering?

I am 28 weeks and getting leg cramps every night now.

I wake up in agony and H has to massage it out then the next day my leg is still really sore, feels like a calf muscle pull.

Any ideas how to ease this?

I had lots of cramps too when I was pregnant.

Try having a glass of tonic water before bed as it contains quinine which helps. I hope it gets better soon!

I suffered terribly with night cramps and had the bruise leg feeling as well. You have my utmost sympathy x. Bananas can help but try some Isotonic Sports drink as that replaces lots of salts and minerals.

i've had these loads, both in pregnancy and not - so painful that I spend the day after limping - ended up in hospital at 21weeks with suspected DVT (but it wasnt) because of a leg cramp....

Anyway, I am not convinced anything reallys works in pregnancy (sorry) - been recommended Tonic water (for quinine), bananas (for potassium), bit of salt, calf stretches during the day etc - all worth a try in case it works for you.

When I had the worst one (when ended up in hosp), my H spent the next few days massaging my calf which really seemed to help.

    I do sympathise x

I'm 34 weeks and suffered really badly with cramps last week. My mw suggested tonic water so I have had a glass every night before bed and touch wood, have not had leg cramps since! So it really is worth trying. Like the others have suggested, try bananas and also a glass of milk for extra calcium. Hope this help, as it is horrendous x

I suffered with these, I found that standing on the edge of the bottom stair on my tip toes and raising myself up 20 times before bed helped. Never heard of tonic water helping but will certainly try that as well next time around.

Hope you manage to get rid of the leg cramps they are awful.

I suffered badly with leg cramps with both pregnancies and the only thing I found helped was drinking LOTS of tonic water. I think I kept our local shop going I had so much of the stuff - and I don't even like it. As the others had said, bananas are also meant to be good but definitely tonic water.

I've been suffering since 16 wks (I'm now 26 + 3) and thought I'd tried everything - milk, bananas, massage, stretches etc. Midwife and Drs told me I had to put up with it and I have, despite legs being really sore for days after causing me to limp, until this week when the cramps went to the tendons in my feet and I couldn't walk. In desperation I tracked down a lovely parent in school who is a midwife who suggested the tonic water. I've had a few glasses over the weekend and before I went to bed last night and for the first time in ages I've slept through and was actually able to walk when getting out of bed this morning! Hopefully it's not a one off but for now it's tonic water all the way (I just have to imagine the taste of gin lol).
