  • O/T - Recommend me a vacuum cleaner

Hi there - we have upright bagless Hoover vacuum cleaner and it is the most rubbish appliance ever!  It gets blocked up after practically every use and when it does deign to suck anything up, it usually spits half of it straight back on the carpet.

My parents are going to buy us a new one for Christmas, must to H's disgust, so can anyone recommend a good one?  We have (stupidly) cream carpets, a 5 month old baby and my H's twin 7 year old boys who come every other weekend.  We have no pets so pet hair is not an issue, although post baby MY hair is everywhere!

It can be upright or cylinder, bag or bagless, so long as it has a good suck Wink and I guess budget would be up to £200 although ideally less

    So any ideas?

    TIA

sorry girls, I HATE dysons!  Have got 2 dogs and dysons are rubbish for picking up their hair.  For us the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned or used is the Sebo 4x extra, it is absolutely fantastic!  Made our capets look new!

they aren't pretty but are flipping brilliant!

we just recently purchased this one from comet

i had £500 in vouchers after winning employee of the year at work, so we didn't mind the cost too much

i can't say i've used it myself, as hubby does most of the cleaning and my consultant said i shouldn't be hoovering, etc but he abosolutely LOVES it!!  and that is no understatement.

the reviews are really good on there too :D

P.S.  Miele do a 10 year extended warranty for £30 which includes replacement if it cannot be repaired and also a free pack of bags, usually £10 - well worth it IMO when spending this much on a hoover!

Thanks everyone - I have heard mixed reviews on Dysons although that's what H would like, but will check out the others.

I have a dyson DC25. It's the lightweight one with the ball. It works perfectly well here and is very easy to manoevre.

get a Henry, maybe not the sleekest and elegant looking hoover, but it does a fab job, easy to pull round, easy to put together, and had a really strong suck. It's fab.

I have a VAX and my OH has a dyson.  IMO the VAX sucks harder (hehe!) and works better.  It looks like the dyson.  Bagless etc.  The cord is longer so i can do the whole stairs with it plugged in at the top which i can't with the dyson! (surely this is a required thing!?)

    OM since 8-9-10

Oh it has to be a Dyson i love mine never had any trouble with it.

  • Re: O/T - Recommend me a vacuum cleaner

Step away from the Dyson! I had a bagless upright for about 5years. Lasted great, done the job etc etc However when it died I bought a Miele. My god you can tell the difference. It's fab! It's like a Dyson on speed, the suction is great, does carpet & hardwood floors, as it's compact it gets into every nook and cranny, under furniture, easy to do stairs and easy to store.

    Well worth the money.

Have just replaced my Dyson with a Miele...

Have heard good things from Henrys too.

we have one of the compact dysons and compared to our previous hoover it's brilliant.

It seems to do a pretty good job of the mess 2 adults and a 2 year old make in our house.

We had a Hoover before and it was really rubbish.

Dysons are useless, we had ours and 2 friends old ones for spares at one point!!! My husband kept insisting he would make one good one!

Now got a hetty (pink henry) and it's fab so much easier and it hoovers anything in it's way(even clothes if they are in way!)
