  • Wedding Mishap (MIL-related)

MIL2B has taken it upon herself to telephone round members of her family to ask for their addresses and girlfriends/boyfriends names so I  "can send them their invites".  I was a bit stumped at this point and did a great impression of a goldfish on the phone.

I have no idea who they are and H2B had no intention of inviting them, much less their partners. Great, how do you get out of that then?

I'd have no problems telling her!  You've just got to come out with it.  Or get your OH to as its his mother.

This might seem harsh but if shes invited them when they aren't actually invited, then she can uninvite them.  I would make her phone these people back and tell them she made a mistake.

Or you could tell her they can come but she can pay the extra for these strangers lol

My MIL2B said to us other day that she had been to see her cousin and husband and she would like them to come to the wedding.  My Husband to be said " you want what??? i aint paying 100 quid for 2 people i don't know to come"  I was very proud of himBig Smile

I wouldn't like the idea of strangers at my wedding no matter who pays for them to be there!!   Fair enough if they are not strangers to your OH but  not if they are complete strangers to both of you.

    Oh dear...

Will you be inviting them to the evening do?  If so, then you'd need their names and addresses for that so no harm done (other than them expecting a day invite but an invite is an invite!)

Other than that, let your other half speak to his Mam.  May be better coming from him than you...

I agree with GB - l wouldn't get involved in this at all, just let OH deal with it- its his side...

I'd ignore and move on.  If they don't get an invite I guess they'll take the hint! I'd be re-thinking your MIL's invite!

Id probably agree to do this with my OH. My MIL 2b is a nightmare!!

I had this exact same problem with my MIL2B (except that she wasn't asking for addresses she had just verbally invited loads of her friends and distant relatives).  Luckily MIL2B and I don't speak directly (long awkward story), so H2B had to deal with it and he did (with no prompting from me - he's such a hero *swoon*).  He just told her that she had to uninvite them and when she kicked up a fuss he told her it was her problem and at no point had he ever told her that she could have more invites than the ones we had allocated to her from the offset.  Probably a bit harsh, but it did the job. Stick out tongue

i was just thinking the same, MIL2B can give you the addresses but you could 'lose' them or 'forget' to send an invite out, by the time (hopefully) she realises its too late!

i'm quite lucky, i get on quite well with my in laws n both MIL2B n my mum have said they'll help where i ask them to, if i don't ask they won't interfere

This sounds like something my MILTB would do, If that was me I would get your OH to talk to her and tell her that its not down to her to invite people, let alone people you dont know! Good luck!

    Finally got hitched 10.7.10 :-)
