  • Any Yorkshire brides here?

    Hello Wave

I'm an OT regular but a planning newbie so thought I'd say hi. I got engaged last weekend and am just starting to look at venues - god, it's totally overwhelming! I'm looking anywhere in Yorkshire really, somewhere historic would be nice and somewhere cosy as we're aiming for December.

Tell me about your plans Big Smile

There are quite a few Yorkshire Brides on here!  Have a peep at the "Calling all newbies and regulars" thread.  I'm a Yorkshire lass too but I'm an old married Laugh  Wherabouts in Yorkshire are you?

    Hey!

Well i'm up in York, and we too are looking for a cosy venue for a December wedding! We've looked at the Barley Hall, absoluely gorgeous, stunning entrance, but may be a little small for us now we've made a list of guests. I'm really sad about it to be honest, i fell in love with the place big time. We're looking at a few more places in York, and i'm going to look at a place is Haworth soon, because I am a big literature geek and a Christmas wedding in Bronte country would just be amazing.

Where abouts are you based? It is overwhelming when you first start looking, but it's so much fun!

How rude, I posted this then disappeared!

Hello! I'm in Leeds but am looking anywhere in Yorkshire basically. There are some incredible venues in York jandr, we have a couple on our short-list to view too. I haven't looked at the Barley Hall as it's definitely too small for us (we have almost 100 for the day!) but Merchant Taylors and the Hospitium are both on the list. I love Merchant Adventurers but the timing thing is a problem - we need somewhere we can use for the ceremony too.

Haworth would be amazing! You could have Bronte-named tables!

Walton Hall looks fabulous Mel, I know a few people who've had lovely days there.

    Hi  Big Smile

I am from Yorkshire  - Wetherby to be precise but I am an old married now.

Have you thought about Allerton Castle or Wood Hall?

Just a couple of ideas to start with. I suppose it will depend on your budget.

Good luck with all your planning

Two more historic venues for you - Nostell Priory in Wakefield and Hazelwood Castle at Tadcaster.  Can also recommend Waterton Park - been to a wedding there myself and the meal was out of this world!  Beautiful backdrop for photos too.

I'm in North Yorks/West Yorks border. A couple of ideas from over this way are:

East Riddlesden Hall (They have lots of preference lists and are quite £££ but we were considering our Dec 18th wedding here) - National Trust property as historic as you can get. You can get married in the hall and have the reception in the barn.

Bolton Abbey Priory and reception at Devonshire arms, Bolton Abbey, Nr Skipton.

Victoria Hall, Saltaire - very historic and an unusual venue

Harewood House, Leeds - massive, very grand. Good for big weddings.

    Good luck!

Oh Wow, Devonshire Arms - that's a blast from the past for me!  I've had sooooooo many works Christmas do's there in the 70's and 80's - fabulous!

Thanks for all those suggestions folks, some I haven't looked at there so I'm off to investigate them!

A lot of them I have though, which are just gorgeous and have had to be discounted for one reason or another - East Riddlesden, the hall isn't big enough for our ceremony (by the looks of the website it only seats 35, unless I've mis-read this), Harewood - a friend is having his there in October, Bolton Abbey - ££££££, although I'd LOVE the Cavendish Pavillion and haven't ruled this out if I can find somewhere for the ceremony, Nostell Priory unbelievably not big enough, and Hazlewood Castle a bit pricey.

I would love Victoria Hall. An old friend of mine is the manager there and it would just be completely perfect for us (my engagement ring came from Saltaire too!). The biggest problem is though that my best friend got married there last year and I think she wouldn't be amused if we went for it.

I'm starting to think we're impossible to please Laugh

We're looking at Merchant Adventurers and the Hospitium too! Let me know how you get on when you have a look round. I'm looking into the King's Manor too, which is actually part of the university but apparently they do weddings there. Haworth is my dream, i hope we can find something there!

  • Re: Any Yorkshire brides here?

Hi... I am getting married in Sept 2011 at Carlton Towers.  Its in Carlton near Selby and it is STUNNING!!  What makes it special also is that it is still a private home so its only open for weddings & corporate stuff and only one or two ofmy guests have ever been in the place so will be a total suprise for the rest of them.

You can have your ceremony there and the place is totally exclusive to you on your day.  As for the bedrooms...WOW!  There is only 16 of them and they aren't the cheapest but they aren't standerd rooms as it is not a hotel.  Top quality Four Poster beds and antique furnitre with bathrooms in some of them as big as my living room with big roll top baths and his n hers sinks.  Yummy!! lol

Anyway i will stop getting carried away.  Have a look!!

Little Fluff, Carlton Towers looks amazing! It's well out of our price range sadly as our numbers are so high, but I bet it'll be fabulous.

Sadly the Mansion is a bit too expensive too as it is looking fantastic after the refurb. We're getting there with the list now though, thank you all for your help.

jandr, have you seen Ashmount Country House in Haworth? It looks gorgeous! Too small for us unfortunately but you should def have a look if you've got less than 65.
