  • Having BM dresses made

I posted the other day for BM dress inspiration as i was looking into having them made.......have got a quote from lady who made my SIL2Bs wedding dress and i think it may be much more expensive than i first thought.

I was just wondering if anyone had or got quotes for getting their BM dresses made?? If anyone did would you mind sharing how much it cost (approximately if you'd prefer!)......or if there are any HIB BM dress makers who could help me out with an idea of pricings i'd be soooooo grateful.

I got my BM dresses made and she charged £50 (plus materials, zips etc). I think I was her first job though (she was the daughter of an ex-colleague who I knew had made her sister's wedding dress and her own BM dress so I asked her if she would make them) so I think she undercharged me a bit going on the amount of hours etc.

My bridesmaids are paying for their own dresses & they're all in different financial situations (1 of whom got engaged after I asked her & is getting married 2 months before me so she has no money!!). I was really hoping to find a high dress I liked but Lilac isn't exactly fashionable so emailed a lot of companies online quotting £100 as the maximum I would like to pay & they all said I wouldn't find anyone for that price. So if you do find someone who can do it for cheaper PLEASE let me know!!!!

Just noticed Autumn Rose that your wedding is only 2 weeks before mine, glad I'm not the only 1 who hasn't sorted dresses yet, didn't think they'd all be THAT expensive in bridal shops!

  • Re: Having BM dresses made

Yep, bridal shops ones are expensive. I wouldn't mind as much if i wasn't having 4 BMs!!!! I am thinking of changing the colour of my dresses to gold, much more likely to be able to find something on the high street i think.

    Will see how it goes!!!!

I've been thinking that, change from lilac to cadbury purple (as there's loads of high street dresses that'd be ideal), only I'm being a bit bridezilla about the colour as I really want a pastel summery colour & you only get to do this once....

Good luck with your search & possible colour change & if you find a reasonably priced dress maker please share!!

My friends mum is making my BM dresses, she is charging £50 per dress, I supply all materials. But... all BM's (or BM's mums as 5 out of 6 are my little cousins) have offered to pay for their dresses so I'm not going to be turning them down on that offer!

  • Re: Having BM dresses made

i'm childrenswear designer (not in bridesmaid dresses), sometime i earn 5.50 a hour to make, and supply all material, add up how much its cost to come to that price....

i am thinking making my own bridesmaids  dresses for my wedding but i have no braining to making adult!! i will have to mock one up, to see how good... i keep thinking should i make it?? or buy it??? My family and OH's family telling me to make it.. i might as well try it.. xx

My friend's mum is a dressmaker, she also makes blinds and curtains aswell, she roughly charges between £50 and £100 to make a dress, depends on material etc.

Elizabeth if I had any clue how to make dresses I would love to make my own BM dresses, I think that would be such a lovely touch to be able to say to people who complimented the dresses " oh I made them myself" I'd love that. You should definately give it a go!

I definately think you should do it, like you said earlier try a mock up and see if you like it and if you think you would have the time and patience to make however many you need.

But if I had any talent in that department I think I would definately give it a go and I would imagine it's cheaper than buying out of the shops, well the bridal shops anyway.

Another plus side is they will be 100% unique to you and your wedding, no one else will have the same dresses!

I'm really lucky my Auntie is making the BM dresses for me! I've only had to pay for the pattern!
