£25 sounds a lot to me but then like you say, it's a piece of string question, dependent upon finances, how many you buy for etc.

Until this year, we didn't have any nieces or nephews between us but I now have a nephew. My brother already suggested not buying for adults on that side of my family (my dad's) which suits us. I've spent £15 on him on something that was reduced from £30 and I will spend another max £3 on a little book or something. Does anyone else fall in to the trap of 'one present doesn't look enough'? But I guess that's only as we have two children they will be buying for so don't want to look tight.

On my mum's side of the family, I have loads of younger cousins, considerably younger so have always bought for them. I do £10 limit but try to get it less if I can. Aiming for around £8 instead of £10 really makes a difference when you add it all up.

I can't believe the amount of presents we have to buy! I tried to make things easier this year as lots of you will understand the difficulties of trying to physically Christmas shop with two little ones! I did a Boots order and there were 21 items, all Christmas presents and only 3 for my children! On top of this, we have atleast 6 other presents to buy.

Anyway, as an aside, how much do you spend on you own/OH or have there been threads on that?

Mr RBH is an only child so the only nieces and nephews are on my side of the family and I have 4 and 1 step nephew. I have always insisted on spending the same on each and this year it is £20. Before G it was more but we had more disposable cash then.

H did ask this year if I was spending the same on all of them as while my brother spends a similar amount to us, my sister doesn't and while all the things she has suggested for her daughter start at about £40 and go up to £100+ (tv and dvd combo!) she will spend £10 or less on G. However, I don't think I can spend less on that niece for that reason and I just don't feel comfortable with spending more on brother's children because he spends more on G iyswim. So, it will be the same all round within reason, so if one of them wants something that is £18 I don't insist on finding something else for £2 and if one wants something for £25 I will just shop around and try and find it for £20.

£20-25 for us. This won't change as the family grows either. If its a problem why now speak to the parents and come to a set budget you all agree on.

I spend £ 20-30 on each of my (4) nephews and ,since we don't present swap with H's side of the family until after Christmas, we usually spend about £15 each in the sale on his 5 nephews and 1 niece.

£10-15 on my nephew and neice. My brother normally spends a little bit more on Izzy as I'm buying for two and he's buying for one.

I spend a total of £35 on my four godchildren and three friends' children. I've got £106 of books from the book people and toys from tickseed for £32.92 and need to get two more little stocking fillers.

I don't have a niece of nephew and only likely to ever have one ore two (Mr M's side) so would probably spend £25 each on them but no chance if I had as many as you.

H's sister has 5 children so we spend £10 each.  My brothers spend £20 on George and Henry but they are the only children on our side to buy for.

We have 2 nephews and a niece on H's side we spend abput 20-25 pounds on them same as my friends 2 children who we are very close to

I also think best to spend equal amounts x

I don't have any nieces or nephews but my H has 1 nephew.  We don't have a great relationship with his sister and never see them, but I have brought him an outfit, a book and a small toy, all in the sales, totalling £10 or just over.

I don't think its all about how much you spend, its the thought that counts.  We do have a budget for friends and my cousins children etc, which is £10.  I try to get as much as possible in the sales, so its more for our money.

£5 each on my brother's 4. I would spend more but they're even more skint than we are so we keep pressies small.

Probably around £20 on my SIL's son but I only see him once a year and he doesn't get birthday presents from us while the others get £10 for birthdays.

We only have two nieces and one nephew on H's side and we spend between £10-30 depending on what we see, this year the older niece and nephew have had £30 spent on the, and the younger niece has had £20 spent on her.  We also buy for our godson and our friend's little boy, both have around £20 spent on them.

    Well we must be cheapskates.

I've managed to spend a grand total of £10 on our three nephews and nieces this year, just have to pay to post it.

the birth rate has gone a bit mental in our family this year so we've collectively set a budget of £5 each and are only buying for the kids. it's been quite fun actually to see what i can get for a fiver!

  • Re: How much do you spend on nieces and nephews at Christmas?

We have 30 to buy for this crimbo excluding myself and H

We have 8 nieces and nephews and will have 2 new friends' babies to buy for this year

Everyone has a £10 budget apart from our Mums & Dads who will get £40

£25 is a lot tbh, I used to spend £20 on the kiddies when there were only 3 of them, then as numbers grew I spent £15 and now this is where we're at
