  • Is there a fine art to spoon feeding?

I marvelled at watching BoB feeding Flo the other day. Not a little bit of food anywhere.

I spoon feed Matilda and she is covered, resulting in a lot of her clothes slowly getting ruined. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi

We found a plastic coverall in McKays (It's a bit big) works very well combined with a muslin over the lap!

    That and dark clothes.

This is one of my top reasons for blw, I don't think I'll be very good with spoons Laugh

Nothing at all. I could spoonfeed Elijah with very little mess - he was such a little piggy he sat perfectly as he just wanted fed!

Sebastian on the other hand, is a wriggly little monkey. He doesn't sit still for anything, not even food. Mealtimes for him involve piles of books and toys and constatnt stimulation to encourage him  to stay in pne place! When he deigns to let me feed him (which isn't often) at least a third ends up on his face as he's constantly singing, bopping around, 'jumping' up and down in his seat while I try and aim!

We use all over bibs, a splash mat and I never wear decent clother when feeding him! Then we just let him get on with it!

We're mostly neat these days unless his hand get in the way. I find I sort of angle the spoon down as it goes in then sort of lift it as you pull it out so the food gets wiped off into their mouth, oh and don't overload the spoon. Sammy is a piglet anyway and hates to waste anything!

You're not doing anything wrong. B never made the mess that E does!

Believe me when I say it's taken 3 months to get that way..... she would be covered in food when we first started weaning.  Now she's eating me out of house and home and I think she just doesn't want to waste one little bit by smearing it anywhere.  With practice, I'm sure it'll be much neater.

Still back on the mush then?

Aoife always been very clean when she's eating but I think that's down to greed and not wanting to waste anything!

Still back on the mush then?

For now... all the stuff she liked and ate well doing BLW was dairy based. Boo! Still still has finger foods but I am topping up with mush as she is hungry and I need to know she is having something. Plus the formula she is on has no fibre in it so I have to make sure she has had plenty food wise, which she just wasn't with BLW and I had a baby with a very upset tum!

I don't think there's an art to tidy spoon feeding...J would sit there and let me feed him no problem. H on the other hand...we started a few weeks ago and she will not let me spoon feed her, she has to have hold of the spoon, so it gets very messy! We use the long sleeved bibs and stick a muslin over her lap and hope for the best!
