This place has got me reading the sling threads and now C is here I am wanting to use a sling. There is a local sling meet on Monday, the problem being C is only a little over 4lb and I don't know if is advisable to sling at his weight. References to 'prem babies' seem to be from 5lb.

I think a sling would suit us as C seems to be a velcro baby and it would be useful on the nursery run. (I am looking at the wrap sling - Moby and Kari-me)

Has anyone been to a slingmeet, what was it like?

I have been to one slingmeet - I think they probably vary a lot depending on who is there, I did find it quite useful. It's a good way to meet people too.

Oh yes, try to go if you can. I'm sure there'll be someone there who can show you how the wrap works and let you have a practice. If you are able to email someone beforehand to let them know you're coming they're more likely to be ready for what will suit you, eg. stretchy wrap, maybe someone with prem experience.

The owner of www.bebecannelle.com has recently had a prem baby and something she'd posted on there mentioned that slinging a prem was best done by an experienced sling user as airway was particularly important. But don't let that put you off, and the slingmeet is sure to help you with positioning.

Recently a mum of a toddler and a velcro baby borrowed a stretchy wrap from my sling library. She commented that it looked like doing origami with a sheet but by the following week she had bought her own and was evangelical about the sling, so I hope a sling is just as useful for you!

Definitely worth going to - and emailing first is a good idea too. A stretchy wrap will make much more sense if you can see it being demonstrated by someone in real-life rather than trying to rely on instruction books/videos, and they'll be able to give you hints about tweaks to improve your technique.

Don't worry if your baby is too small at the moment - I assume he's going to grow at some point! Wink

I saw a tiny, tiny baby - certainly no more than 4lb - in a Babasling yesterday.  Certainly worth going along and chatting to someone, when I was in hospital with A, the kangaroo care was highly recommended so I reckon it'd be a good thing.....

Thanks I think C would benefit from slinging, he really does seem to sense when I put him in the moses basket and try to walk away - very much a velcro baby.
