  • WWYD - jewellery related

I'm really starting to worry about my jewellery but I'm not sure whether I'm just been silly or whether I have a good reason to be worried.

I ordered my jewellery nearly 8 weeks ago and at the time was told that they were out of stock and therefore would need to be sent in from the US taking aroundabout 3 weeks. That was fine, I thought, and that's why I didn't leave things too late.

So, after just over 4 weeks I hadn't heard anything (I had paid for it by this point) so I emailed them to to find out what the situation was, especially as we'd been having problems with our post - I was worried it had maybe been delivered to the wrong place as this has happened before with deliveries from elsewhere. I was informed that the jewellery had left the US and that they would check to see whether it had cleared customs here. Four days letter I was told it had cleared customs and that as soon as they receive the delivery they'll forward it on to me.

Last week, with about 3 weeks to go before the wedding, I emailed them again because I was getting anxious. I don't even know what it'll look like with my dress yet! They inform me that the delivery from the US was held up but that they have now received the items and they were being sent out that day. This was last Wednesday.

Now I know there are postal strikes going on but I would have thought the items would be here by now. I'm not sure if I'm being a bit paranoid but I've only got 18 days to go before the wedding and I don't even know if I'm going to like this jewellery so I'm worried that I might need to order something else and if so I'm running out of time. I mean, what if they jewellery is damaged when it arrives or it's the wrong item. Am I wrong for panicking a little?

Yes your panicking but with good reason!! Have you spoken to them on the phone? Its much easier to tell if people are fobbing you off on the phone! I would ring them, find out exactly what is going on, I would also be asking for the delivery charge to be refunded, but thats just me.

Have you looked at a few other alternatives just in case? It might be worth having a look round to see what else is out there, and setting yourself a date, so if the stuff you ordered isnt here by X then you will buy the other stuff just in case. And if yours does turn up, give the other stuff you bought to you CBM and she could return it while your on honeymoon.

Hope that helps and you get it sorted hun!

I'm really the wrong person to offer advice on this as I'm in the same boat, waiting for pieces which should have been delivered but havent!  But what Moya said sounds sensible!

I haven't spoken to them on the phone since ordering it but I think it's coming to that! I've just been so busy at work and at home that I just haven't had a minute to do things like that. I have seen something else that I could order thought.

I'm not very good with the whole confrontational stuff, I just end up feeling like I'm being a nuisance or one of those brides to be who keep moaning about things!

I think if you were chasing after a week you could be classed as an irrational nuisance bride, however after this long and after they have told you it will be there after a week and its not then you have a right to ask them where it is! You dont have to be rude, just call them and see what they say, you will soon know whether you are being spun a line and its not going to be here or if its genuine and should be here in the next few days. At the end of the day you are paying for a service.

I know what you mean about time! Sometimes a quick email when your at your desk is much easier than having to find the time to call! But then again, i emailed a florist to try and get an appointment to talk about flowers, the email was on there contact us page on there website, waitied a week and a half, no reply, so gave them a call, which is actually unlike me, I tend to think if they cant reply they dont want my business, but I get a 10% discount with theses people so thought I would call anyway, and she said, 'oh, we dont check our emails!' Bang head Why put an email address on your website then!!! ...Sorry that kinda turned into a rant!! lol!

you are totally right to be worried.  Give them a phone and find out whats happening - you'll feel so much better when you do.

If I were you , I would be on the phone to them again today.

A jewellery set I had made for somebody got coaught up in the last lots of blooming Royal snail strikes & my b2b was panicking like mad as it was only 2 weeks to her wedding.

I made another set up for her & posted it out via next day delivery, she got it all in time for her wedding but we still dont know where the other set is that I sent out the first time.

Ring them today again & see what they say.

Hope it all works out for you

    Definitely,

I had to chase up with my wedding ring! I'd wanted something specific which I couldnt find anywhere here and so it was being shipped from Hong Kong. I didnt know this to begin with in all honesty otherwise probably would have cancelled it. They kept fobbing me off and in the end 2 weeks before I had to go and order in another one from a local shop in case it didnt arrive (needed the time as my size isnt available without being resized).

The other ring turned up about a week before we flew out to get married and it was horrible! I'm so so glad that I had the alternative which was much nicer.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I think I'm probably just putting off what I know I need to do because I hate making a fuss. I'm going to give them until Wednesday in case it's held up with the postal strikes and then I'll phone them. I may even order something else just in case, which I can always return if necessary.

    Thanks again.

I don't think you are panicking, don't you have a tracking number, surely it was sent recorded delivery. I have to say that I have had some parcels back recently where the buyer has given me both the wrong address and email address and I have been completely unable to contact them, so have had to refund them. I really couldn't understand why 2 to 3 weeks after ordering they weren't contacting me asking where their order was, If you order something else and get the option I would go for special delivery, they re taking about 2 days but prioritised over the other mail. .

  • Re: WWYD - jewellery related

I think the above is excellent advice - I hate talking to people on the phone, and making a fuss, but you'll feel much better if you just do it (maybe find somewhere quiet to call on your mobile at lunchtime or something?) ask if there's a tracker number, so you can check it's been sent - but be warned, the signed for is taking just as long as other mail, if you want it really guaranteed go special delivery. I have heard that items may be delayed up to 3 weeks with the strike, so it may be worthwhile checking your refund policy and looking for something else.
