how far in advance did every1 book their wedding/reception

Hi all,

I got engaged on my birthday last month, h2b and i are looking at getting married in june 2011, was just wondering from everyone else how far in advance they booked their wedding/reception??? I've started looking at churches and reception venues already but was wondering if maybe this is a little too early?? what does every1 else think??

Hi Kellyandy, in my opinion if you have anywhere in mind then get in there and book if you can. I know my venue which I booked in March for next August were taking bookings for 2012!

I have already booked for my Jan 2011 wedding and you want a peak time so if you want a peak venue get in there!

FIrst of all,congratulations! All that early planning is really exciting. We booked our venue for April 2010 in May 09. It's weird though that about 5 people have said how "organised" we are doing everything "so far in advance", but then another 5 or so have said how quickly we're getting married... i wouldn't take too much notice of what others think. Get on and plan and book when you're ready. 

If you have a particular place in mind then book it now and anything else you want who caters for only one wedding a day.

We booked the reception venue for August 2010 in April 2008. The church would not let us book till January this year. We booked photographer April 2008 too. THe first choice DJ was already booked for our date when I called in October 2008!! I booked a different one in May this year, and the florist in March this year.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who has looked so far in advance, makes me feel a hell of a lot better now lol. I was just worried i might be being overly organised by looking now. But now that i know, I shall carry on and hopefully book something soon.......I'm so excited!!!!! yay

Congratulations! No, not too early at all - we're June 2011 too and we've got the church and reception booked! What date are you thinking of? We wanted the 25th as it's our anniversary, but it was booked so we've plumped for the 18th!

Hi, I got engaged on 9th August whilst on holiday. Two days back from our holiday I booked venue - its not til 23rd October next year (still cant work out ticker!) and I wanted over a year to plan as its soooo much fun. So whatever suits you, dont listen to what other people think either. My sister is already scoffing at me for dress shopping 'so early' but I say bums to her, its my day and Im going to take as long as I like and make sure I get every detail right. x

I booked in August 2008 for 3rd October 2009. We did originally want to get married on a Saturday in September but the venue we wanted was fully booked and only had week days left. So, if you like a popular venue then the sooner the better to avoid disappointment.

Also, the more you can done early the less you have to stress about in the final weeks

Take your time, remember it's your day and you can do things as quickly or slowly as you like!

If you know somewhere that you really would like to get married then I say go and try and get it booked just now.  We booked our venue in December 2009 and we are getting married April 2010.

We got engaged sept 08, booked feb 09 and getting married sept 10 and we're getting married abroad so can leave it a bit later!  I think you should keep at it, i know a lot of girls here are planning for later than you.  It will fly by!  I'm nearly under the year mark already! Crazy... i'm still thinking we've got ages! But we really haven't now!x

we booked everything last year for our wedding in august 2010, it's the only way of making sure you get who/where you want.

venue's change their prices and menu selections every year and last year our venue had a 5 course and have now changed to a 4 course menu but we are still getting the original choice since we booked early...some beneifts

We got engaged last December and booked the venue in January for this October. So not that long really compared to a lot of people! We wanted to get married this year and were quite lucky because we were thinking of a Friday wedding and our venue had loads of dates available although if we'd have wanted a Saturday we would have only had the choice of one or two dates for this year.

As some of the others have said, if you've got somewhere in mind I'd book it as soon as you can.

We are getting married in July 2010 & we booked our venue & everything in October 2008.

The only thing we haven't made a start on yet is suit hire which we will do early next year.
