have we ever heard of something similar for women?

Men go on week long vacations to Russia etc. to find themselves a wife, but I've never heard of the same thing occuring for 'lonely' women.

Turkey is positively a hotbed of Shirley Valentines trying to pick up impressionable young lads - they even made a documentary about it.

Africa is also a popular hunting ground for these cougars.

Alaskan men has been around for years. It's hardly a tropical country with bright blue sky, warm swimming pools and pina coladas!

I think some ladies go to Thailand as well, to pick up young guys (not ladyboys!) - I once read a book about it.

Or women could always get themselves over to Lisdoonvarna in County Clare for the annual Matchmaker Festival and hook themselves up with a handsome bog farmer.

I liked one quote in particular about the festival.  'In a way, the Matchmaker Festival resembles a Brigadoon gone terribly terribly wrong'.

I don't find Thai men even remotely attractive as they are too short and skinny, but I have single Western friends out here who have Thai boyfriends as finding a Western man to find you attractive in Bangkok when there are so many skinny, beautiful Thais about is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The best thing is when you see a Western man walking hand-in-hand with a ladyboy and you know that 90% of the time these chaps have no idea they're actually with a man.

EGIB - That made me chuckle no end.  I don't think I would be able to spot the difference either. 

They can be hard to spot tbh.  But tell tale signs are large hands and feet and they often mince when they walk.  But to be quite honest I get insanely jealous when I see how skinny they are and what great legs they have!  It's not fair.  This is a pic of my mil at one of the famous ladyboy shows.

Tunisia and Morocco similarly have numerous barmen with English girlfriends...
