anyone been to the Maldives?

As the title suggests really.... anyone been??!

Really want to go there for honeymoon but unsure of what island.

We want to spend around 5k all inclusive for 10 nights... any suggestions ladies?

We've been 3 times, once twinned with Sri Lanka, and have stayed on Laguna Beach (now re-named), Maayafushi (not available to UK any longer) and Vilamendhoo (great snorkelling but much beach erosion).

Your budget is good, I would def recommend either AI or HB depending on how much you drink and whether you wish to try any other restaurants that may be on the island you choose. Most durations are 7 or 14 nights though as it's mainly charter airlines who fly direct to Male on a weekly basis although Emirates is another option via Dubai.

Best idea is to trawl the brochures for islands in your price range then check out the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com. We always do this as it's easy to get carried away with the top, very pricey resorts online otherwise!

What time of year are you looking at as high season is Dec - Apr and our summer can be quite wet and stormy although the weather has been adversely affected the last few years even in Feb/Mar.

I've just come back from the island of Meeru.  We stayed in a beach villa as we took out children with us so weren;t allowed to stay in the water villas.  The weather was gorgeous the first week but was overcast for the entire second week and rained constantly for almost 4 days, really heavy rain too.  The snorkelling was amazing and if you like diving then you're in for a real treat!

Lovely!!  We stayed on Coco Palm which was fabulous.  Too far for a boat transfer, so we had a sea plane transfer without a supplement.  Small island with a spa, great service and fabulous food.  I'd thoroughly recommend it!

It is beautiful but i have to say, my H and I were bored after the first week

Take lots of money for the trips to get you off the island a few day and have some massages etc.

What island did you go to spring??

I have to be honest, we both have such busy work schedules and are always racing around (his family live an hour away and we go to see them twice a week after work!!) I think it will be heaven to just laze around for a couple of weeks! I am so content with a book to read that I think we should be ok. I def think some trips etc is a good idea though

We are going to maldives on January 3rd for our honeymoon and i cant wait.  OH has been to maldives be4 but to another island.  He says the maldives really is paradise and being able to walk around without shoes is liberating!! (will be hard for me to get used to as i live in my heels!!) I was concerned about being bored but with a good book and my lovely new husband to enjoy i'm sure it will be just heaven.

Exactly what I thought. My friend said to me 'oh, you'll get bored and end up arguing'..... I should hope not, I have just married the guy!!

What island are you going to?

We went for our honeymoon and stayed at the Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, it wasn't AI but it was FB - the food was amazing. I'd love to go back, I'm trying to persuade H to go in Jan. We went via Dubai on the way and had 4 nights there and 7 nights in maldives.

Something to wet your appetite even more

Its Sheraton Full Moon, its a Kuoni holiday my oh went with them b4 and he says they are brilliant, make you feel really special.  I am hoping to have a couple of spa treatments and he will have a couple of dives.  We are staying in a water bungalow.  I really can't wait to be somewhere where there isn't much to do, i dont want to spend my honeymoon going sightseeing and on excusions tbh.  I just want to relax and chill out with my man.  This will also be our 1st holiday alone together as we both have kids from previous marriages, will be great just doing nothing but spending time alone. im all excited and want to go now!!!

Also our friends our going to Sun Island in October so will let you know how they get on.

We went to Royal Island and it was just heaven on earth!

We went in September and had wonderful weather, it rained just twice and that was during the evening. We were there for 2 weeks and coukld have easily stayed longer. Can't wait to go back. I did actually write a report on our honeymoon, I am sure I still have it somewhere. IUf you want to read it (and see a few pics) just drop me a line.

You will love it where ever you go!
