I've never had a problem with freeforums either and I've used them before.

I suspect if the problem has come from them, it's from one of their advertisers rather than the site itself.

I use firefox 3 with adblock plus and I've had no pop ups or anything else.

I have not had any problems with the virus, but then I have Avast! antivirus scanner thingy and it is great! It is free as well!

As I said earlier on, it has infected my machine with Trojan and I do have virus protection - it is a company machine.  It happened just after I had registered and was just browsing so I know it came from there.  The virus protector they want you to buy is 'stuck' in my machine and I am getting pop ups every couple of seconds .  Driving me nuts and IT can't actually get to my machine until next week as we have no IT onsite at this office until then. Really annoying.

Me too. It's working okay for me - it's good to not get the Hitched adverts too...

I was a tad concerned as I had the 'trojan infection' pop up thingy come up as well. It told me I had several documents infected and the pop up thing seemd to be attached to my cursor. I just closed down my machine and re-booted.

I am on a work's laptop so rang our IT bods. We actually have to log on via a VPN (whatever that may be) so they have assured me that all my anti-virus is up to date and I most definitely won't be infected. They said it's a ruse by some internet company to click on and purchase their software.

I am a computer numpty and have no idea what it's all abpout, but work have assured me it's all ok so I'm not worrying too much! Smile

I went for a peek to see what it was all about - didn't register and literally must have spent 2 mins at the most (no offence) but afterwards my norton detected a trojan and removed it.  Booooo!

Unless you download something from a website there is no way that simply visiting a page can infect a computer with anything. You have to give permission to access your machine. The advert most likely asked you to click on something and if you did and allowed it access then and only then would a problem occur. If the advert pops up don't click anything on it, just press escape.

I got some pop up that I couldn't get rid of however I tried, then couldn't reboot machine.  I know lots of people who have had problems with viruses from different freeforums sites so we're not the only ones.  And it seems that it doesn't affect lots of people

i have been accessing on mac, pc and iphone and havent had an issues so far at all.

sorry to hear some of you are having this problem

I got this same pop up from another website before.I'm not very IT literate so this might not make sense but I'll try to explain.

I clicked on the thing which said I had a virus.I was really worried and then something said I needed a programme called Personal Antivirus to remove it.

My computer then stopped booting up and I took it to a repair shop. The guy there told me the Personal Anti virus is itself  and basically it'll ask you for money to install a programme to rid you of the trojan. There is no trojan, and if you pay the money it'll end up taking much more money from your account.

I don't know how you get rid of it without going to get it fixed so this isn't much help but don't pay out any money for the Personal Antivirus thing. I've now got avast virus scanner which (touch wood) is excellent and free :)

I didn't download anything at all - not from that site or any other. It was dead weird,  All I know is that after I went on there and then my norton detected a trojan. Weird!

Its not just freeforums that is having the problem with it, I got infected from a minutes lapse on a google link! Took me bloody ages to get rid of it. Wouldn't shut down, unless I cut the power. Best thing to do is get you hard drive partitioned so that is store the factory settings seperately. I can reinstall them at will which gets rid of 99% of my troubles!! Have also installed AVG and the thing seems to have stopped trying now, thank goodness!

I haven't had any problems at all.  I've been using it on the pcs at home and work, and on my iPhone.  It's all been fine.  I've got antivirus stuff on the pc.  The only problem I've had is that it's not working this morning!  Ho hum.  I reckon Darren sabotaged it!
