Well we had our day on the river (with cake photo)

I asked for help with plans for my MIL's birthday and you all helped, so thank you We ended up on a launch on the river, from Westminster  and down Tower Bridge, then back to to Hammersmith (it was choppy beyond TB), and home to Westminster. There were about 30 of us in all, including lots of family I hadn't seen for a while. The weather was glorious and it was a terrific day.

Anyway, this a poor excuse to show you the cake I made, which I finished at 12.30 am this morning. I was quite chuffed, given I only had a week's notice and a nightmare timetable wise even without cake-baking and icing. Picture's a bit poor (it's from my phone)but that at least covers the rough bits, of which there are many. Family were suitably chuffed though, which was nice.

And thanks all. I would recommend the whole launch hire thing to anyone - not particularly cheap, but i feels really flash, so well worth it

That's a lovely cake and I'm glad you had a good day.

One thing I should probably mention is that the party didn't actually happen, because Rowan claimed that it was impossible to have a party on a boat, because "boats are for riding on, not parties".

Even after several hours' exposure to some pretty incontrovertible evidence that it was in fact possible to have and indeed attend a party on a boat, she was still unconvinced - apparently it wasn't a proper party because it didn't have balloons.

I love that it wasn't a party purely down to a lack of balloons (I'm not sure to add that I think she's right - not a party without balloons and bubbles!).

Oh yes, balloons are a necessity. But I think you can be forgiven as the cake makes up for it. It looks amazing.
