  • No idea what's going on - early pregnancy and m/c

I posted on here two weeks ago to say I got my BFP after the second go at IVF. Then I posted a week ago to say I was miscarrying.

We had to go back to the clinic today to check that the miscarriage had completed. We were hoping for some closure on the whole thing as we want to try to get back to normal now. However, on the scan they saw a pregnancy sac and a foetal pole. No heartbeat, but they said it is early for that. My HcG blood level showed that the level has only doubled since last Monday, but it has risen from 790 last Monday to 1450 today.

So we have been told we have to wait another week and then have another scan and if there is no heartbeat next Monday then we know for definite. So it seems that the miscarriage I had last week was the loss of one of the two embryos we had transferred. Now I have to face the possibility of a second miscarriage. The consultant said it's unlikely that this pregnancy will progress due to the low HcG levels. But they cannot rule it out till Monday.

I can't believe we have another week of agonising waiting. We are trying not to get our hopes up as we were just coming to terms with the loss and cannot go through that emotional nightmare again.  Physically the bleeding has stopped now and mentally I was jsut begininning to feel a bit stronger again, but this has knocked me for six again.

I know this is a long shot but is there anyone out there who has been through anything similar?  Or whose HcG levels did not double but still had a successful pregnancy.

    TIA Thanks

Don't know if it's much help but I had the same symptoms in july after a BFP.  My first scan showed a tiny early pregnancy sac and hormone levels of 667 which didn't increase the way they'd expected.  After a further 3 scans over 10 days 2 tiny heartbeats appeared and am now 13 weeks.  The EPAU told me to expect the worst but it just goes to show that there is always a bit of hope.

Really hope everything works out for you and sending you lots of sticky vibes

Oh you poor thing.  I have been thinking of you so much and this must make things more agonising and difficult for you. Hug

I don't really have any advice or experience on this I am afraid but I'm sure somebody will.  I had a friend who had bleeding in early pregnancy and she went for an initial scan at 6 weeks and didn't see a heartbeat and then when she went back for another scan the pregnancy had progressed so it is a possibility that things will be ok.  I'm not sure if she had bloods taken and HCG levels checked though so I can't really help with that but she was told things didn't look good.

Just wanted to send you a Hug. xxx

oh WF...how awfully scary for you Sad

i know mrs B had a suspected m/c and then a scan revealed all was ok after all. but obviously she didn't know her HCG level as she wasn't an IVFer

i don't know whether to try and reassure you or not though...i've never known of anyone of your position and had their experience to share with you Hug

WF, I am so sorry that you have to go through all this.  I cannot imagine how horrible the not-knowing must be.

I have no advice or experience to share, but wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you and Mr Frank.

    Hug

something likethis happened to a friend, it was their first IVF and they got a bfp, they went for an early scan at 6 weeks (she had also had a bit of bleeding), to be told there was no heartbeat and to expect to m/c, another scan in a weeks time showed one heartbeat, don't know hcg levels but that little heartbeat is now 7.5mths old!!

i hope all turns out well

KissOh WF, the waiting must be torture - I'm so sorry.  I'm not sure what to say - you say you don't want to get your hopes up, but you also ask for long shots...  it's cruel isn't it, that you want a definite answer - so that means you flit between wanting a yes and wanting a no (not wanting - you know what I mean - if it's a no, you just want to know). So - hopeful stories, but also stories to help you loosen your grip on the hope.   I'm so desperately sorry you're being tortured this way.

This next bit is not a real life storing - just me talking - but it's a little hopeful I suppose, so it you're not in a place where hopeful stuff is useful to you, don't bothering reading it. Hug  Tbh, my personal opinion is that your beta hCG is pretty much unreadable, because of the two embryos.  I believe that one of your embryos started to implant, and therefore would have been producing hCG too.  So your 790 last Monday could have been for two embryos.  If you could partial out the amount for the other embryo (which you can't) then your increase to 1450 would be a bigger % increase.  It would still be less than the guideline of doubling every 48-72 hours, and at least 60% increase in 48 hours.  Some people do have slow building hCG levels - and if you wanted to be hopeful, at this stage, the best you could hope to see is what you've just seen.  Is there any chance of talking them into another hCG at the end of the week?  Though that's pointless I guess - only a scan is going to give you a definitive answer.

You don't know how hard my fingers are crossed - and I shall be calling Petal to arrange an entire flipping field of ovine fertility sheep.  Sod that - you're Welsh frank - we'll have a whole blooming Wales worth of sheep.

Oh WF, I can't believe you've got to go through this waiting game again, after all you've been through so far. During your original posts I did wonder if you were perhaps only losing one of the embryos, but didn't think it was a very helpful thing to say. And, like you, I then thought your HCG levels meant it was all over. What MarineGirl says makes complete sense and I know there are people out there who have slow rising HCGs - you deserve a miracle so much, so I will be clinging on to this glimmer of hope for you. No matter how many promising stories you hear on here, the wait will again be unbearable for you I'm sure. I will be thinking of you all week, as I have been since your bfp. Hug

And adding a herd of fertility bovines to the ovines, just for good measure Hug

    Lunar sheep!

I'm sure that Neil Armstrong actually said "...one giant sheep for mankind" when he stepped on the moon.  Forced NASA into a cover up. Wink
