  • Cottage in Cornwall Recs

We are now planning to hire a cottage in Cornwall for new year.  There will be 6 adults and 3 children (aged 5, 1 and 8 months).  I have never been to Cornwall.  Can anyone recommend any areas that would suit us?

Ideally we would like somewhere near the sea with nice views

The area around Padstow is lovely with lots to do.  We stayed near Port Isaac last time we went, which was beautiful.

Recently we stayed in the South Hams in South Devon (Dartmouth, Salcombe etc), and IMO it's one of the most beautiful areas in the South West, and I would choose it over Cornwall (but that's also partly because it's that bit closer).

have a browse on here www.padstow-self-catering.co.uk

there are some lovely places on there - we have used them a few times with no problems.

We stayed in a fabulous house in Coverack which slept 6 adults plus children. It was booked through English Country Cottages but I can't find it on the website anymore.

Have you had a nose on that website though? We found them to be very good.

Give Porthleven a try and Mousehole (pronounced maow-zoll) , there are plenty of cottages there. Give St. Mawes a miss, as much as it's nice it takes forever to get anywhere from there.

Thank you all.  I'll take a look at the recommedned websites and see what we can do.

I'd also recommend Devon. The Dartmouth area is lovely and there is a great holiday park with a theme park there called woodlands  which is great for kids and is included in the price.

www.coombemill.com is great, fab lodges, next to the Camel trail, 15 mins from Rock and Polzeath and about the same from Port Isaac, half an hour from Eden project. Great place for children as they have 6 under 11 including triplets, Fiona can arrange babysitters, food etc. I live 5 mins away, I will have a think of any other larger cottages,
