  • Christening - what to do / wear?

Mr W and I are orf to our first ever christening next month. Having never been before, I need to know the following:

Do you dress up a la wedding? If not, how dressed up should you be?

Do you take a card / present?

    TIA.

    Ha! Begone you daft tickers!

Not wedding smart, more...sunday best smart, if that means anything at all to you.

I would always take a card,  present only if it was someone close

You do need to dress up but, not as much as a wedding. I tend to wear trousers, shoes and a nice top, I wouldn't wear jeans.

I'd definitely take a card but it depends how well you know the family. I normally buy a gift when a friend's baby is born so don't normally buy a second gift for their christening. Hope that helps a bit!

Everyone brought a minimum of a card to J's christening, most came with a gift or cash.

If you do take a gift, write on the back of the card what it was, as it makes thank your cards easier Smile

Dress is not as smart as a wedding, but still smart.

I went to a christening the other week.  I wore a smart summer dress (but not as smart as wedding wear).  I took a card and a small gift.  I've always taken a gift to christenings but to be honest that's because we've always been quite close to the family.

WEES.  Smart but not as smart as weddings.  I often take a gift (but usually in a bit of a grump if I feel that the christening is only because the parents want gifts for their children - ie there is no intention of ever taking the children to church again), but I usually take a religious gift ("ha - that scuppered their plans"), such as a child's bible, Noah's Ark moneybox etc - Past Times used to do some lovely traditional Christening gifts.

Thanks all. They're good friends, but not family so I'll get a token present I think.
