  • Recommend me your cloth nappy

So, I am looking to switch to cloth nappies but there is just so much choice out there it is hard to know what is best so I am turning to the wisdom of Hitched.

I have tried a One Life nappy and my main issue was that it was really bulk on K (the wrap seemed to be half way down her leg). I have to admit that I did find the separate wrap bit a bit of a faff so have been considering all in ones but am I likely to be walking into a recipe for leaking?

I would like a nappy that I at least have the option of tumble drying because although I plan to air dry as much as possible I am kidding myself to believe that I won't tumble dry sometimes.

Also, I would like another baby at some point so one of the benefits for me will be that I might be able to use the cloth nappies I buy with that baby too.

I have looked at the Tots Bots range, particularly the Bamboozle, and also the Bambinex nappies so would particularly love to hear any views on these - good or bad.

So Hitched ladies - what do you think?

Wilf is currently modelling the Bumgenius one-size, and we love them!

TBH we haven't really tried anything else except Lollipop Micros but he's grown out of those and I find the Bumgenius easier to use as it's an all in one. Compared with disposables the Bumgenius are better at containing poo and pretty much as absorbant. I've only had 2 leakage events, one due to me being slummy and not changing him when I should and the other due to his Dad not quite putting it on right. I don't find them too bulky, but Wilf's a big lad. They dry very quickly, we don't have a tumble dryer and they are always dry within a few hours even indoors. Think you can tumble them.

Hopefully they will last to do more than one baby and they are standing up well so far. Being a pocket nappy you have to get them ready to go by putting in the insert and ajusting the nappy to fit, but I just do this once they are dry and have them primed and ready.

Downside is that they are expensive c £15 each, but you don't need to buy wraps.

Thanks for the reply Sabs. Good to get feedback on Bumgenius too as it was one of the nappies recommended by The Nappy Lady. The only thing I was worried about with these is that, with them being one size, they would be very bulky. K is quite small (somewhere between 13-14lbs at the mo). But at the same time sized nappies might not be great at the mo either because she isn't big enough for most size 2 yet but size 1 will be a bit of a waste of money as she won't get much wear out of them.

As you can see I am tying myself up in knots with this decision!

    Hi snapdragon,

We're using BumGenius among a whole host of others right now and we're loving them!  Ellen is under 10lbs still and not bulky at all.

I'm really loving the itti bitti d'lish ones as no horrid wraps making her hot and they're proving fab in this hot weather.

MotherEase one size are slo among my faves for ease of use and nice fit.

I have one Bamboozle and much as I love it, it's a bugger to dry!

I'm using the ittii bitti d'lish ones. I bought one and liked it so much that I've bought a bumper set from cheeky wipes. They dry quickly as all the insides snap out. Oh and they're very cute!

We mostly use bumgenius - they're OK but we've had a lot of wee leaks - I think A is a bit skinny for them. 18 months in, they're starting to fall apart a bit so I'm not sure I'll be able to use them for no-.2 as well - I'm not sure I'd buy them again. We also have one modern baby pop in which I prefer as a one size all in one. As for two parts, we have some bambeasies which I love but they're very bulky and take a long time to dry. I think the pop-in's my favourite.

another one using the bumgenius birth to potty, aaron is 7 weeks (was 9lb over a weekd ago, dont know about now) and fits fine  into clothes for his size with them on. We dont have a tumble drier and have no problems drying them. Havent had many leaks, just about once or twice when hes had a marathon sleep! (but thats with the wee inserts anyway!)

Also have a few other nappys, tots bots, bambinex, blueberry and itti bitti ones, havent had any problems with any, just bought them to add a bit of choice to the BG. Can't resist the patterns, its tragic!

For night we use Totsbots Fluffles.  They're fab for having a keep dry feel.  Ellen sleeps through since using these after she used to wake for a nappy change.  Theyre stopped making them now but they make an all-in-one out of this material and can prob pick up still from some places.

We use a combination of BumGenius birth to potty, BumGenius AIO sized and Itti Bitti d'Lish.  I prefer the sized ones as they are a trimmer fit and now that Z has just reached 15lb the mediums fit so have bought a load of those.

I also had a couple of Modern Baby Pop-Ins but didn't really get on with them.

    We used disposables overnight.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

  • Re: Recommend me your cloth nappy

Another for BumGenius and Itti Bitti (and disposibles overnight - he always leaked otherwise, he mostly sleeps through).

I found the wrapped kind to be too bulky even for A, who is quite a big 'un.

Especially love Itti Bittis, as they're neat fitting, furry and very cute!

  • Re: Recommend me your cloth nappy

Thanks ladies. I hadn't hear of itti bitti nappies so am going to investigate your.

As a matter of interest how did you all decide what to go with and where are good places to buy?

  • Re: Recommend me your cloth nappy

I'm using tots bots easyfit which are all in one. I absolutely LOVE them. I have microfibre as it's so quick drying. I ruined my last lot of nappies with the tumble drier. These are practically dry as they come out of the machine!

Edgar is 13lb and I'm using them on the smallest setting. I get a really good fit too.

  • Re: Recommend me your cloth nappy

We use a lot of Bum Genius and I love them. They're so easy, you don't need to think about them (apart from stuffing them once they're out of the wash), and they dry super quick. We've been having some velcro issues recently (after 10+ months), which is frustrating. If I can solve it, I'm sure they'll last thru potty-training.

I also have been getting into prefolds and terry squares. I really like terry squares - the folding isn't bad at all. The worst bit for me was getting used to the nippa closure. These are great value, and shouldn't be off-putting at all.

Night times we use Harmony Hemp by Easy Peasies. I stuff them with two small Micro Fiber inserts as well, and use either a wool or fleece wrap, and that seems to work. We've tried BG, but had to stuff them so much to be absorbant (he's 12 months, nearly 25lbs, and sleeps thru 11 hours), that it wasn't staying closed! I'd like to try the Bamboozles, as I've heard good things about that for an overnight. I'm just working up the courage for another £9 nappy!

ETA: I chose the BG primarily b/c they were easy to dry. We lived ina  flat for W's first 9 months and I had to air dry everything in our living room. I was too wary of folds and nippas to try flats/prefolds, but were I to do it again, I think I'd have started wtih that. BG are pricey. They're handy and I do love them, but it was a big investment.  ALso, now we're in a house with a yard, I'd love to try more bamboo ones, that take longer to dry, but are very eco-friendly and absorbant.

I buy from lots of different sites - all online sadly as there are no cloth nappy stores near me. I've only seen one (in Berwick), but that's a bit far away, adn they really only have a few odd nappies...
