I've just rung a friend and rambled on about my news for 20 mins, for her then to say her news is that her husband has left her and their 2 sons.

It sounds pretty final - they'd been having counselling and although she thought they were making progress, he decided enough was enough 3 weeks ago and left.

They've been married for 10 years, together for 14 and were people I held up as an example of the perfect couple.  I can't believe it.

As it happens I've got a day off on Thursday so I'm going down to see her for the afternoon.  I don't really know what I'm going to say.  I was trying to remember HItched advice from previous similar posts in the past eg "Don't take sides" as I've never been in this situation before.

There's no point to this thread really.  I just needed to tell someone and it's not my place to tell anyone I know in real life as they all know the people involved.   I just hope I can be a good friend to her now as she's been such a good friend to me over the years.

Aw your poor friend, it sounds as though things have been rocky between her and her OH for a while. I'm sure she will appreciate spending some time with you and i'm sure she knows you're there whenever she needs you.

Oh K that's awful - how sad for all of them Cry

No advice other than the usual follow her lead stuff, but you'll have no problems with that.

Sometimes no-one around has a clue when a marriage isn't going well.  What an awful time for her. I'm so glad she has you as a friend to help her through
