  • Implant as contraception

Does anyone else use this & how do you get on with it if you do?

Am thinking of my long term options post children!

    Cheers xx

  • Re: inplant as contraception

I had it for a few months after having my first child and didn't get on with it at all, I bled on and off the whole way through, so decided to go back to the contraceptive oral pill which made my periods much more regular.  Not sure if I gave it long enough but couldn't cope with the hassle of having no idea when my period would be.

My friend had both the implant and the injections (not at the same time) and suffered side effects from both, although I can't remember which was which.  She was told that she has the bone density of an 80 yr old now though, and has been having stomach problems ever since.

Not 'seen' you for ages, how's you and your gorgeous boys? x

I have had mine in for 3 weeks now. Jury is out, I am now on day 6 of bleeding, not particularly heavy or painful but irritating. I am wondering if it acts as a contraceptive by making you bleed so much you can't actually have sex. Will see if it settles down.

i've had 4 in total now.

implant 1 was fab.  took about 6 weeks to settle then things improved dramatically.

No 2 got infected on insertion - not good.  However once that had been sorted no problem.

Implant 3 was a swap again and was fine.

it was removed in april 2007 and eleanor was the result of the removal.

implant 4 was put in in December 2007 in a panic in a knee jerk reaction to Eleanor arriving so early and has just been taken out.

I feel better with it than with out it to be honest.

There is an unproven theory that Eleanor's early arrival may be related to the fact i had my implant out and got pregnant a fortnight later.  However it's hard to prove.  Just in case i'm having 3 clear cycles before trying again this time.

overall it's been fine.  I've had my moments with it but best of all the light regular periods are fantastic.  I'm dreading 3 weeks time to see what happens with out it.

Lots of people have problems but apart from the infection on the whole things have been great.  The other thing it improved for me was acne i have a face like a teenager again now it's out!

    i hope that helps
