  • nighties for hospital bag

I'm usually a PJs kinda girl but I hear buttons front nighties are a must for hospital if I'm planning on breast feeding.

Hit Primarni today but they had nothing suitable. Has anyone bought any recently that can give me a recommendation please? Obviously don't want to spend too much as I won't wear them again.

Also will need a lightweight dressing gown. The one I have at the mo is white which would do fine but I think I'd prefer to take in one in a darker colour.

    TIA

I got one in an M&S outlet store - it's basically just a granny nightie in a v large size - cost me about a fiver and I don't imagine it will be coming home from the hospital with me!

Actually that's more for labour - Tesco have mix & match PJs (with suitably dark bottoms and button down tops)

Hi Wave PJs are absolutely fine - in fact I don't think anyone was wearing nighties when I was in.  Finding a top with buttons (or a nightie for that matter) is not that easy though.  TBH I would just lift up PJ top when in bed feeding  - you can always pull the curtain around.  I think Peacocks has some cheap lightweight dressing gowns.

Last time I bought one from Matalan, it was a size 12-14 (I'm an 8-10) and cost me £2 in the sale!

I didn't end up wearing it, as it was really hot on the post natal ward.  I wore pj shorts and a vest top (that went with a pair of pj bottoms, I'd bought) and found that top fine to BF in.

Excellent, thanks everyone. I'll feel much more comfortable in PJs so won't worry about nighties then (think I will buy 1). I did think vest tops would be ok to pull down/up but was just going on what others have told me so that good to know  and I guess if i feel "exposed" I can just wear my dressing gown too.

Is the only time PJs won't work is if I have to have a cathater if I have an epidural (I may have just made that up but I'm sure someone said that to me)?

    Thanks.

i got a couple of breastfeeding nighties from Mothercare. I have worn them since as they're useful for BF at home.

I took PJs into hospital but couldn't get into them as i was still huge after giving birth. It took longer than anticipated for my bump to deflate.

I got a cheapy nighty from Primark togive birth in and just whipped it off as she was born to give her her first BF

  • Re: nighties for hospital bag

I bought one nightie in primark to give birth in (size 16-18, I was a 10-12 pre pregnancy) this ended up being cut off me as R pooed all over it and me as soon as he came out and I told them I'd never wear it again so cutting it was better than covering me in meconium getting it off!

I had an epidural and couldn't wear pj's with the catheter, so I was glad I had bought a bf nightie from mothercare! I was in my pj's as soon as I was able!

If you want a vest type top why not treat yourself to a BF vest top they have a clip like a BF bra that you can unclip and feed.  I have a couple of these and used them throughout BF so they were a good buy.

Thanks for the tips guys. Its a great help.

SS - how long did you have to have the catheter in for?

It's less than 3 weeks ago and I can't even remember how long I had the catheter in for!!! Embarrassed It was only in for the time it took for the epidural to wear off, it was after I was transfered to the post natal ward, and I just buzzed and asked the nurse to remove it once I had feeling back.

i bought a couple from vertbaudet. preferred nighties as not worried about leakage.  i had a c-section and had a catheter for around 12 hours also didn,t want the waist band of pj's as felt sore

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?
