When they change your dates at the 12 week scan

  • When they change your dates at the 12 week scan

Do you go with the new dates?

I've been put 5 days ahead meaning that if I go 5 days over the hospital will class me as 10 days over. It's likely I will go over and as I want a homebirth I'm worried.

Also, how can I be 5 days out? I have a 28 day cycle so did I just ovulate early that month? Not sure how it works?

My dates were changed by 5 days too. I'm not sure what would have happened if I'd gone overdue, I did ask them, but they told me not to worry about it. I think they knew I wouldn't get to my due date. ollie was born 2 weeks early just like his brother (scan dates) so maybe they were right. I am not sure how you can be 5 days out, my cycle has always been 28 days too. I hope that you get your homebirth - plenty of time to sort things out.

Ah - you have my sympathy! I somehow ended up with three due dates. It wasn't until I went really late that I made them decide which one was my due date. They went with the earliest date in the end. Thank goodness they did as I ended up with an induction and M weighed 10lbs 11oz. If they'd gone by the later date I dread to think how big she would have been!

Get someone to clarify for you now - ask your GP or midwife.

I was told (after having my dates changed twice) that if at the 12 week scan the dates are out by less than a week either side then it should stay at as the date worked out by your LMP.

My dates moved by three days at my 12 week scan and they confirmed the dates again at my 20 week scan. I thought i was sure of my dates but i figured if at both scans they said the same date then surely that is the due date?! Wish i had been put ahead but sadly they put me the three days back!

When I was pregnant with my daughter - I was sure my due date was 9/11 but they changed it to 6/11 - she was born on 2/11.

This time I was sure my due date was 20/06 but they changed it to 17/06.

I have been changed by 3 days both times at the 12 week scan - even though I was pretty sure I knew when I ovulated.  It is just that even though we may know when we ovulate within a day or two - even with the most regular cycle - implantation etc may occur a differing times therefore we may just gain a few days.

Try not to worry about it.

My EDD by LMP was 1st Aug, and by the 12 weeks scan it was 3rd Aug.  I have a 28 day cycle but knew the LMP date was wrong as I knew the date I ovulated, so 3rd Aug was right.  They used the new date throughout my pregnancy then, and used that new date to decide when I was induced. HTH.

It's worrying isn't it, when you consider potential induction! My EDD by LMP is 26th May, but the scan brought me forwards by 8 days to the 18th May. So, official EDD on ALL my paperwork is now 18th May and this is what I'm working to.  I believe this is based predominantly on foetal length. I have been booked in for an "induction talk" on the 28th May, 10 days over the scan EDD, but they have said that induction dates would be discussed openly (IYSWIM).

With T, My EDD was 27th June, scan said 21st June, but I was in an area where the two dates had to difer by 7 days for them to change the EDD. T was born 22nd June. I think I have long babies, but am assuming that this one will come earlier than LMP EDD.

My EDD by dates was 9 August, the scan put it at 20th August. We went with 20th August, as I was having long cycles and was pretty certain 9th August was too early. I wanted to finish as late as possible from work, so that was good.

She was born by elective section on 15th August and my notes from the hospital have her gestation as 40+6, ah well.

My due date was brought forward 6 days at my 12 week scan, never made any sense to me as I'd have had to ovulate on day8, whereas I thought it was day 16 and I don't think I could even have conceived if I had ovulated that early. That was what they went with though. As it turns out I went into labour 7 days over, a day after my original due date (and probably about right based on ovulation!)

If it came to it and they wanted to induce, could you argue to delay based on LMP and your normal cycle length,

know it's a bit early but www.homebirth.org.uk has some really good info about being over due and home births

I had the opposite happen to me but think my cycles were longer so I went with it. EDD by LMP had been 16/11 but they changed it to 25/11 at the first scan. He was actually born on 01/12 so neither really made much difference although by my LMP dates he would have been more overdue. I was also told that they only change it if it's a week or more out and I did actually get asked which one I wanted to go by. I agreed with the later date as they said otherwise he would always appear small on the charts/measurements.
