Couples looking for 'cultural' honeymoon destinations

Couples who have recently tied the knot are increasingly looking for interesting and historical long-haul destinations for their honeymoon.

This is according to Frances Tuke, a spokesperson for ABTA – The Travel Association, who claimed that Brits want a "one-off holiday" destination that they wouldn't visit on a yearly basis.

She believes that unique environments offering both culture and the opportunity to relax are the most popular.

"[In] Thailand you have got all the lovely culture and history and you can go and do elephant rides up in the north and there are beautiful temples that really are unique," Ms Tuke explained.

Sri Lanka, which is steeped in history and located on the Indian Ocean, is also popular among those who have just made a wedding speech, she continued.

Her comments come after Kuoni revealed that the Maldives, Thailand and Sri Lanka are its top long-haul honeymoon destinations for 2010.

A cruise around the caribbean, skiing in Colorado or diving in Egypt…where do you fancy taking your honeymoon?
