Couples want 'high-end simplicity' from wedding cakes

When couples are choosing a wedding cake they will undoubtedly want a spectacular dessert with some beautiful and delicate decorations.

However, they are unlikely to go too overboard, as one expert claims that the current trend is for high-end simplicity.

Speaking to the State Journal-Register, Rick Reeves, whose family has been baking cakes in Akron, Ohio, for many years, said that desserts with three to five layers are often requested.

"That's the fashion right now. Stacked, with ribbon or simple scroll work, which is very, very popular," he explained.

According to the news provider, designs are becoming increasingly delicate and intricate, with many patterns covering the sides of the cake instead of incorporating "roses and swags of icing".

Eleonora Levinson from Classic Cakes & Confections recently told abc15.com that brides often choose desserts that complement their wedding dress and the theme of the day.
