US bakery creates world's most expensive wedding cake

Finding the perfect wedding cake is likely to be one task that brides enjoy as they search though the myriad of shapes, decorations and colours available to them.

However, if they have money to burn, one dessert in the US may take their fancy.

The world's most expensive wedding cake has been created in the US and it is worth $1.3 million (£805,152).

Made by Delicious Cakes and the Dallas Gold and Silver Exchange, it is dripping in 1,200 carats worth of diamonds and features a silver dust coating.

The masterpiece weighs in at 160 lb and although it could feed up to 320 guests, they would have to pay $3,125 for a slice.

Butch Stivers, owner of Delicious Cakes, said: "With the economy being bad - and we do the Dallas Bridal Show so many years - we wanted to do something that the new brides-to-be could see and dream about and get their minds off everything else that's going on."

Barbara Halepaska, owner of Halepaska's Bakery, recently told the Victoria Advocate that the average wedding cake feeds between 80 and 90 guests.
