Wedding cakes 'are a chance for couples to indulge themselves'

A wedding cake is one of the most important aspects of the reception for couples as it makes a statement, both for them and their guests.

This is according to one expert, who was recently quoted by the Montgomery County Courier as saying that the dessert should appeal to "the mind, the eye and the palette".

The news provider highlights comments made by Gerald Hartwell, owner of Sweets To Dream On, last year.

He stated that while some couples opt to cut a traditional tiered white cake after they have made their wedding speech, others are a little more adventurous.

Many people "want to indulge themselves with unique shapes and configurations. Colourful patterns, shapes and polka dots are increasingly popular", he noted.

Pictures posted on the Gather and Nest blog recently showed a wedding dress that had been created out of cake, featuring a bell-shaped skirt covered with white icing.

As a cupcake maker we are beginning to see more brides wanting cupcakes as well as wedding cakes. Very trendy now and certainly more cost effective alternative.
