'Amazing Grace' the UK's favourite wedding hymn

More couples opt to have 'Amazing Grace' playing at their wedding venue when they tie the knot than any other hymn, a new study has found.

Though the past few years have seen a rise in low-key civil ceremonies, Church officials have reported that a significant proportion of couples still prefer to stick with at least some traditional aspects of the ceremony, not least when it comes to the choice of music.

Data compiled from the Church of England's recently-launched online ceremony planner found that John Newton's hymn remains the most popular in wedding venues across the country, followed by 'Make Me a Channel of Your Peace' and 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'.

In addition, readings from the Songs of Solomon also continue to be a hit among Britons getting married, the study found.

Welcoming the findings, Rev Peter Moger, the Church of England's worship development adviser, stated: "The tradition of the church wedding is alive and well, and recent changes will make it possible for even more couples to marry in church."

Since its launch back in October, more than 1,300 couples have opted to use the new online wedding planning service.
