Oxford stadium to host wedding dress charity ball

Former brides, grooms and bridesmaids are set to descend on Oxford's Kassam Stadium on New Year's Eve for a wedding-themed charity event.

In support of Marie Curie Cancer Care, the stadium will play host to lavish ball for as many as 200 guests who are asked to wear their wedding dresses, suits and bridesmaids' gowns, the local paper reports.

Rachel Harwood, general manager of Kassam Stadium, told the Oxford Mail: "I lost my mum to cancer and she would have been at my sister's wedding this year, so my sister will be here in her dress supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"I have been to quite a lot of weddings and all the women, who obviously spend large quantities of money on their dress, tend to want to wear it again and never have an opportunity to do so.

Guests at the party will be treated to a wedding reception and photographer to create a memory of the occasion.

The organisers hope the fundraising event will raise over £5,000 for the charity.
