Winter weddings grow in popularity

An increasing number of couples are choosing to tie the knot during the winter months in a bid to save money on wedding venue costs.

According to a recent report in the Telegraph, couples can save as much as 50 per cent on the cost of hiring a venue and providing catering for a wedding reception in winter compared to peak wedding season over the summer.

Spokesman for Debenhams, Ed Watson, told the newspaper: "We've never seen such a dramatic change to traditional weddings. There's no doubt that getting married is just as popular as ever, despite the credit crunch, but couples now believe they can get better value by putting cost before centigrade."

As a result, bridal fashion and wedding attire is being altered to accommodate the colder temperatures.

"After all, no one wants goose bumps to be the most prominent feature on their wedding photographs, so sophisticated but warm attire is the order of the day," Mr Watson added.

Many brides opt for an autumnal colour scheme for weddings scheduled between the months of September and February.
