South America more accessible for honeymooners

Far away destinations such as Peru are becoming increasingly popular with couples looking for a unique honeymoon experience, it has been said.

According to the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), South America is now more accessible for Brits, making long-haul destinations like Peru a more mainstream option.

"The world is becoming a smaller place and becoming more accessible, places that were looked upon as far flung not that long ago," a spokesperson for the AITO commented.

"It's easier to get to and once you're there, it's not something that was perceived as intrepid as it was a while back. People are more aware of what's available now - it's not the end of Earth like it used to be."

Travel company Opodo's recent Up and Coming Destinations for 2009 report, showed that bookings for Lima in Peru increased by 98 per cent between 2007 and 2008.

Newlyweds jetting off on honeymoon are advised to ensure they have adequate insurance cover to protect against any eventuality.

A cruise around the Caribbean, skiing in Colorado or diving in Egypt...where do you fancy taking your honeymoon?
