The Looooooongest Wedding Day of the Year

June 21st is the longest day of the year in 2009 and with 'the longest' day of the year in mind, hitched.co.uk did some research into some other 'longest, wedding related' subjects from around the world.

Every couple is different when it comes to engagement, but the worlds longest engagement is held by Octavio Guillen and Adriana Martinez.   The couple got engaged in Mexico back in 1902, but didn't say their vows until 1969, making their 67 year long engagement the longest in the world, so far.

After engagement and during wedding planning couples need to decide how they want to become man and wife. One of the most traditional ways to tie the knot is in a church, and the longest church in the UK, to date is Liverpool Cathedral measuring 188.67 meters.

It is probably every girls dream, but only recently the longest wedding dress train was unveiled during a festival in Romania. The train measured 1579 meters (5180 ft, 5 in) and consisted of over 7000 sparkling Swarovski crystals.

The average wedding guest list in the UK is said to be approximately 123, however in Indonesia anyone and everyone remotely acquainted with the bride and groom receive a wedding invitation.  This can make the number of people on the wedding guest list in the thousands. Even though they may not all attend the actual ceremony, it is considered rude to not attend the wedding reception. It is safe to say that Indonesian wedding planning couples have the longest wedding guest lists in the world.

The longest married couple in Britain have recently celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary.  Frank and Anita Mildred tied the knot in 1928 and are aged 100 and 101, however back in 2002 a couple from Taiwan celebrated their 85th wedding anniversary, being recognised as being the longest married couple by the Guinness book of world records.

The good luck expression 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue....and a silver sixpence in her shoe.' dates back to the Victorian era, making it one of the longest and well known wedding traditions of all. If you are going to a wedding this summer and want to buy the bride and groom a lucky sixpence for their shoe to represent wealth and financial security, head to hitched.co.uk.  Genuine lucky sixpence pieces are priced at £2.95 each and are presented in a small organza bag.

For further information, wedding planning advice, or to purchase a lucky silver sixpence head to hitched.co.uk.
